Our Preschool Program is designed for children aged 3 to 5 years in Headingley and Winnipeg, MB — a warm, engaging Montessori learning environment where kids can explore, discover, and grow at their own pace. In this stage of early childhood development, children develop greater independence and confidence while building the academic and life skills that will prepare them for Kindergarten and beyond.

WHAT WE LEARN IN PRESCHOOL
Hands-On Montessori Learning Across Every Developmental Area
Through a mix of independent work, small group lessons, and practical life activities, children in our Headingley Montessori preschool develop skills across all six Montessori learning areas. Every activity is hands-on, child-led, and based on authentic Montessori education principles developed by Dr. Maria Montessori.
Mathematics
Using hands-on Montessori materials to understand numbers, patterns, and problem-solving. Children develop real math knowledge through concrete manipulation before moving to abstract concepts.
Language
Building vocabulary, phonics, sentences, and early writing skills through language-rich daily interactions, guided exploration, and carefully chosen Montessori materials.
Sensorial
Refining the senses through activities that isolate and highlight specific qualities like texture, size, color, and sound. Sensorial work lays the foundation for math, science, and language development.
Practical Life
Caring for themselves and their Montessori learning environment through real-world activities like pouring, sweeping, food preparation, and tidying their workspace. Practical life skills build independence, concentration, coordination, and joy.
Culture and Science
Exploring the wider world through geography, nature studies, and hands-on science experiments that spark curiosity and build knowledge about the world around them.
Music
Weekly Orff-based music education where children explore rhythm, musical instruments, and vocabulary through joyful, age-appropriate activities that build communication skills and creative expression.
A MONTESSORI ENVIRONMENT FOR GROWTH
Preschool at Guiding Minds Montessori takes place in Classroom 3, a vibrant mixed-age Montessori learning environment shared with older peers. This is authentic Montessori education in action — younger children benefit from having capable role models to learn from, while older preschoolers begin stepping naturally into leadership roles and building empathy, communication, and social skills.
The classroom is designed with open shelves and natural Montessori materials for easy child access, filled with carefully chosen hands-on activities across all Montessori learning areas, organized to encourage focus, free choice, and responsibility throughout the daily work cycle, and managed by 3 experienced Montessori teachers and Educators for up to 24 children — allowing for individual attention and one-on-one guidance throughout the full day.
Located at 4945 Portage Avenue in Headingley, our Montessori School is open for families across Winnipeg, MB and surrounding communities. Registration is open now for full time and part time child care options.
PRESCHOOL PROGRAM HOURS AND FEES
Our Preschool Program at Guiding Minds Montessori School in Headingley runs Monday through Friday from 8:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. We are open for full time and part time child care enrollment.
Extended hours are available through our Before and After School Care program for Winnipeg and Headingley families who need earlier drop off or later pick up to allow for a full day schedule.

Extra Enrichment for Preschoolers at Guiding Minds Montessori School
Preschoolers at Guiding Minds Montessori enjoy special enrichment programs woven purposefully throughout the week — going well beyond what standard Headingley and Winnipeg child care programs offer. Our focus on whole child development means every enrichment activity is open for all preschoolers and designed to support physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth.
Music
Weekly music programming with a qualified teacher supports rhythm, Orff-based musical instruments exploration, language development, and joy. Music is woven into daily circles through singing, dancing, and movement to build vocabulary, knowledge, and curiosity.
Yoga
A qualified children's yoga teacher guides preschoolers in gentle movement and body awareness activities that build gross motor skills, self-calming strategies, and physical confidence through natural sequential movement.
Beginner French
Children are introduced to French language including colors, numbers, animals, months, and foundational vocabulary — building early communication skills, knowledge, and curiosity about the wider world.
Hot Lunch Program
An optional, nourishing food program in partnership with Boston Pizza supports the practical life routines of our preschool learning environment and keeps kids fueled for a full day of Montessori exploration and play.
